faesdeynia: (I love the world)

So far things haven't been too bad. I cook/eat most of my own food, so it's been pretty easy. I've made some recipes that have been excellent (roasted brussels sprouts with balsamic vinegar) and some that haven't turned out as well as I'd hoped (meatloaf with 1/2 cup of coconut flour in place of the 2 cups of oats I used in the past).

But I really miss dairy. I went to Central Market today and just about cried as I walked through the fine cheeses section. I love cheese SO MUCH. This is probably the longest in my whole life I've gone without yoghurt, cheese, cream, milk, or butter. I miss the mouthfeel most of all. I crave the squishy, binding feeling of melted cheese.

But, aside from that, I've been pretty good!

How is everyone else doing with their primal diet resolutions?

Coconut flour is something I use really sparingly as it's very heavy—heavier even than almond meal. If you're able to eat flax, try soaking a couple tablespoons of ground golden flax in some milk or water for a while, then add it to the meat. Also, quinoa is technically not a grain. If you're doing beans, mashed white or black beans (canned) can be good, a little lighter than the flax or nuts. Alternatively, mashed sweet potatoes or squash are a decent alternative if you want something to bulk it out.

I can't do w/o the dairy, since meat/fish/eggs and I are not always friends and I can't do beans/soy, but I've been edging toward the 80/20 and experimenting more with using fruit instead of any other starch in baked goods. So far, so good. Also, really focusing on reducing potentially inflammatory fats. I've managed to get a lot accomplished without triggering my ED, positive associations with primal/paleo friendly foods and making better choices, so while my commitment seems flaky compared to a lot of people, it's as close as I can get. I'm going for 'good enough'.

I am eating colors.

:grins:

Not following any diet, not doing anything really besides eating as much vegetarian protein as I can, and eating foods with lots of colors.

taking things in stages

over the holidays I got very lax - I had given up cows milk as it cause my face to explode in rosacea and I figured I could get back on the wheat wagon as it was the 'holidays'

yea not so much as my legs became covered in hives

so back off wheat and this time I have my husband on board which is a BIG help. we still have some grains in our diets, but having wheat out has made a big difference.

I still have goats milk cheese (cuz OMG, CHEESE) but the quantity is much less...

figured, once we are off these for a bit, then we will cull out the other grains and then sugar
